Prior to his election as Marshal, Jerry Denton was serving a term as a city councilman for the City of Denham Springs.
He has served as an Assistant Attorney General and Special Legal Counsel to Louisiana Attorneys General Richard Ieyoub and Charles Foti.
He is a former director of the White Collar Public Corruption Section for the Department of Justice and a former Special Prosecutor for the East Baton Rouge District Attorney’s Office.
He has 30 years experience as a commissioned law enforcement officer, including 12 years as the Special Investigations Detective for Terrebonne Parish, and most recently, as a member of the Hurricane Katrina Law Enforcement Task Force.
He belongs to the 21st Judicial District Bar Association and the Florida Parishes Inn of Court.
Jerry is licensed to practice law in all state and federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. He earned his Juris Doctorate Law degree from Southern University 1987, and completed his undergraduate studies in government and business at Nicholls State University in 1984. He also holds a degree in criminal justice.
He is married to Michelle Henderson Denton, a teacher at Lewis Vincent Elementary. He has two children, Trey and Elle Denton. He and his family are members of the First United Methodist Church in Denham Springs. They are also members in the Krewe of Denham Springs.
